Re: How to get beyond USB cable problems

Joe and Dave,

Note that wireless "n" is faster but only works well if you have a clear line-of-sight between the wireless router and the outdoors laptop. I highly recommend using wireless "g". It penetrates walls better.

Re: How to get beyond USB cable problems

Joe, Don't run a USB cable from outside to inside. Instead, run an Ethernet cable (CAT5/6) from the NUC to your home network. Then from inside the house, connect to the NUC using Remote Desktop software. I do it. It works great. I run a 100-foot long CAT5 cable, but from what I understand, you can r...

Re: Capturing stills for stacking - not a video

Dave,

I think I understand now. Peter wants to LiveStack individual frames of Jupiter. I'll leave it up to you to explain why that is a bad idea :D

Re: Capturing stills for stacking - not a video

Hi Peter, Select "SER" output file format. It is a video file having a ".ser" file extension. Then download *free* PIPP to extract the individual frames for processing. I made a how-to video here: https://rumble.com/ve87ot-how-to-process-lunar-images-like-a-pro.html I really push...

Re: central bright area...vignetting?

Hi Joe, You did a great job capturing the North American Nebula and Pelican Nebula. You suffered through a long stretch of bad weather, so I can understand why you jumped at the chance to image the other night. However, the 90% Moon was only 60 degrees away. Then, combine that with the ungodly light...

Re: central bright area...vignetting?

Joe, Absolutely! All you need to do is concentrate on capturing Lights. We have all of the calibration files we need, just as long as you stick with 30-second exposures and gain 120. This so-called "old school" method is what all astrophotographers practiced before LiveStack was introduced...

Hi Joe, Your Flats look excellent! Here is a screenshot of the histogram: MF-IG_120.0-E_2.0s-ZWO_ASI294MC_Pro-4144x2822-St-histo.jpg and here is the Master Flat: MF-IG_120.0-E_2.0s-ZWO_ASI294MC_Pro-4144x2822-St.jpg All of your calibration files are perfect. Next step is to capture Lights on the next...

I would love to say something but you've limited the number of respondents to just Robin.

Re: central bright area...vignetting?

Joe, I received a Gmail from you an hour ago having 51 attachments. When I tried to download them, Google says that I don't have access to your Gdrive. I sent you a request for access, but nothing has changed. On August 11, you successfully sent me Bias and Dark files over Gdrive. You contained all ...

Re: central bright area...vignetting?

Joe, Since you have a light panel there is no difference between an indoor flat and an outdoor flat. Flats alone tell you a lot. It will reveal dust, dirt, and fingerprints on the sensor window and filter. It also shows vignetting. Capture 50 Flats with whatever filter you normally use for deep-sky ...
