Re: HyperStar and Smart Histogram
Thanks Robin, that makes a lot of sense. Since I currently have an AltAz mount, shorter exposures are definitely mandatory because of field rotation and the limitations of my mounts tracking. OTOH 15 seconds is the bare minimum I can live with or the processing gets ridiculous. I'm thinking a soluti...

HyperStar and Smart Histogram
The last 2 nights I've been imaging M31 with my C8HD + HyperStar using SharpCap. My camera is a QHY183C in case that matters and I'm in a Bortles 7 location. So I used the smart histogram which has always given me great exposure using the rear camera with or without the reducer. It told me to set my...

Re: Can't Plate Solve with Hyperstar
Before I ordered my HyperStar, I found some subs online and used SharpCap's folder camera to test whether plate solving would work.
I am using this:

I did have to download the appropriate index files.
Worked on the test images. My HS doesn't arrive for 2 weeks.

Re: Capturing darks when using ROI
Thanks for the detailed response. I see your point about using darks with planetary. So I guess that really simplifies the problem LOL! Thanks again.

Re: QHYCCD 183M camera Problem
Another thing you could try is dropping the resolution way down to say 640x480 and capturing only a small portion of the sensor. If you get good frame rate that way, it likely means it's a USB throughput issue. FYI, I have a QHY183C and use it all the time with SC with no probs. But I am using USB 3...

Capturing darks when using ROI
My camera has a large resolution (5500 x 3600) and when I'm doing planetary, I use a much lower resolution so that I can get a higher frame rate. Usually something like 640x480. This of course is using only a small area of the sensor that happens to be around the planet. I use the capture to video f...
