ASI174 used for occultations - timeing ?

Hi Robin/All, If i use this camera and Tangra for determining an occultation (mid-frame) time, and i have V 4.1.1x... Do i select "end of frame" time setting in Tangra ? The time stamp is applied by the computer clock in this case. I ask the question because im not sure if the SER time sta...

Log File housekeeping ?

Hi Robin, I dont have many log-files in 2023. The last one was 2023-12-02. My question is whether or not old files are deleted by SharpCap? If so, is there way to increase that time period, or should I copy them by hand? Why you ask? Well It occurred to me that this a record of telescope usage over ...

Re: Excessive Star Glow

Old lenses will have these aberrations. Its accentuated by high(er) resolution CCDs. You could stop down, and this should sharpen up the image. I see the same problem on Canon-L lenses at full aperture on a 60Da, since they are not corrected for the IR or deep red (e,g Ha). So I take extra care with...

Re: What's the difference between polar alignment and plate solving?

Hi Alexw, Sorry, I miss-informed you about sharpcap not using plate solve in the polar axis routine. Thanks for the clarification/reminder Robin! Alexw replied to me (i think) : "So you're saying tracking during an exposure DOESN'T use plate solving, it just bumps your axis based on the displac...

Re: What's the difference between polar alignment and plate solving?

Hi Alex, The polar axis alignment is fixed at the time you set up the mount. This is not always exact. SharpCap has a tool that enables you adjust the mount by using a camera on the finder. This is partly manual and doesn't use any plate solving. Its a physical adjustment. I check the polar alignmen...

coordinates. J2000 or JNOW for sequence planner ?

Hi, I have my system as JNOW for pointing. As i understand, the plate solve uses J2000 and this is converted to JNOW - im fine with this. Which coordinate system is expected by the sequence planner and advance editor, where the coordinates can be entered [Move mount to] ? For example, i have a list ...

QHY174mGPS 12 or 16bit?

Hi: I was in a recent ZOOM meeting that was discussing fast frame rates for IMX174 cameras. I have the QHY174mGPS. I use it for deep sky imaging as well as occultations. Typical settings are: Occultations: 2x2bin, Gain 380, exposure 100ms Deep Sky : 1x1, Gain 180, exposure 60 sec I use gain 180 beca...

Re: Dithering

Hi Robin/All, Thanks for the discussion. I have now used dither, and find the image moves too much, so the frame edged are shifted, and clearly different stack lengths. I think i should be able to adjust this in the settings, but any tips welcomed. (see example attached) In the manual, it indicates ...

Re: Dropped Frames

Hi Robin, It was a pleasure to meet you at an AS meet recently. Just to pick up on dropped frames, I use the QHY174mGPS with SC 4.0.8604 and i get a few dropped frames with most recordings between 5 and 50 fps (even with ROI). So i would like to expand the logging data. Based on your answer above wh...
