16bit and 32bit files

Hi Robin, My stacks are saved as 16-bit. (QHY174m). After upgrade to V4.1 i get 32bit stacked files as well. Looking at the manual i have "32 bit floating point" set to off. So is there a setting to remove the 32bit files ? This begs the question where do the 32 bit files come from if i ha...

Re: QHY174mGPS wrong exposure interval.

Hi Jean-Francois, You wrote: The exposure value is not taken if no "Return" is press or when the keyboard "|" is still in the exposure input field. Yes, i have also encountered this. In one case it was set to 100ms, but i changed it to 80ms (or so I thought) but the exposure was ...

Re: QHY174mGPS wrong exposure interval.

Hi Robin,

A possible consequence, is that the exposure was 65ms, but with a delay between frames of 123ms. Is this possible?
Not that it effects the final occultation timing, only the SNR.

Re: QHY174mGPS wrong exposure interval.

Thanks very much Robin for the analysis. A poor USB connection is quite likely ! The connection is USB3 to a USB3 port on the laptop. The cable run doesnt normally create a problem, but i have the original 1.5m cable connected to an "active" (non-powered) 3m USB3 extension. However this is...

QHY174mGPS wrong exposure interval.

Hi / I recorded an occultation last night (SC 4.1.11786 as ADV bin2x2). The exposure was set to 50ms, i then changed that to 65ms. The Camera log file says 65ms. All well so far, but the adv is recorded with an interval of 0.188s ! At 00:31:00.169227 - The log file also says 639 frames captured at 5...

ASI174 used for occultations - timeing ?

Hi Robin/All, If i use this camera and Tangra for determining an occultation (mid-frame) time, and i have V 4.1.1x... Do i select "end of frame" time setting in Tangra ? The time stamp is applied by the computer clock in this case. I ask the question because im not sure if the SER time sta...

Log File housekeeping ?

Hi Robin, I dont have many log-files in 2023. The last one was 2023-12-02. My question is whether or not old files are deleted by SharpCap? If so, is there way to increase that time period, or should I copy them by hand? Why you ask? Well It occurred to me that this a record of telescope usage over ...

Re: Excessive Star Glow

Old lenses will have these aberrations. Its accentuated by high(er) resolution CCDs. You could stop down, and this should sharpen up the image. I see the same problem on Canon-L lenses at full aperture on a 60Da, since they are not corrected for the IR or deep red (e,g Ha). So I take extra care with...

Re: What's the difference between polar alignment and plate solving?

Hi Alexw, Sorry, I miss-informed you about sharpcap not using plate solve in the polar axis routine. Thanks for the clarification/reminder Robin! Alexw replied to me (i think) : "So you're saying tracking during an exposure DOESN'T use plate solving, it just bumps your axis based on the displac...
