Re: white balance using a gray-card

Hi,

you can use whatever settings you like - some prefer to work with 50/50 neutral settings, others with balanced settings.

What you *must* do is use the same settings for lights and darks. If you don't do this your darks will not subtract correctly.

thanks,

Robin

Re: Settings not retained

Hi, actually this setting can get automatically turned off in one case... If the camera fails for some reason during the load of the previously saved settings (which happens just after you open the camera). The reason for this is that suppose you have somehow saved a setting that causes the camera n...

Re: SDK for Mallincamsky cameras

Hi Dan, I'm afraid I can't do anything with that SDK - it's not just that I don't have test cameras to work with, even if I did there are other things that stop me from adding direct support for that SDK. SharpCap will only support Mallincam cameras via the Mallincam ASCOM driver and/or the Mallinca...

Re: QHY 268-C sensor analysis delivers false SystemGain (-e/ADU) and Fullwell Cap.

Hi, thanks for that - it looks like the default WB values for that camera are 10,10,10 - and, unusually, you can only boost the channels, not boost and lower them. If you perform a sensor analysis, SharpCap will set the WB controls to what it thinks is neutral when you press 'Start'. After that, at ...

Re: Settings not retained

Hi, SharpCap will remember your last used settings based on turning on the option - https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.0/#Automatically%20restore%20camera%20settings If that option is turned off then the camera will start in default settings (often RAW8, 50-100ms exposure, depending on make of camera). T...

Re: Platesolving finding >1000 sources when there clearly isn't? Please help!

Hi, first, the maximum value of sigma that can be used is 250, although I suspect that this will eliminate all stars in almost all cases! Certainly turning it up should reduce the star count. I uploaded your image above to nova.astrometry.net, just to validate the size and position in the sky : http...

Re: Play back stacking - problems

Hi, if you have saved your RAW frames in PNG, all is not lost - open those in the folder monitor camera. They will initially appear monochrome with a grid pattern due to the lack of debayering, but you can fix that by setting the 'Debayer Preview' option to 'Force XXXX' (probably RGGB). That should ...

Re: SharpCap Still Mode

Hi,

are you right up to date (new version uploaded today)?

If you are and it still happens then please capture a log for me - just let the bug happen and then grab the log and share it afterwards.

cheers,

Re: Low Frame Rate with Altair 183C v2

Hi, I disagree - if you set the same settings on both pieces of software then you will get pretty much the same frame rate. The only exception to that is that SharpCap does not enable the lower resolution modes that AltairCapture does. These have limited use anyway as you are sacrificing resolution....

Re: Low Frame Rate with Altair 183C v2

Hi, the limit for this camera at full resolution is about 17fps. You can get faster frame rates by selecting a smaller ROI (in particular it's the height of the ROI that tends to affect the frame rate). If you open the camera into AltairCapture, the live video mode defaults to a lower resolution (18...
