Re: New Feature : Background Subtraction
Robin - I was happy to do the analysis for you. I have been thinking about the odd color shifts and gradients for some time. This analysis really made clear to me what has been going on for some time. I think that what you already have for background subtraction is a vast improvement over what I was...

Re: New Feature : Background Subtraction
Thank you for your reply. With regard to the Drift Graph, I did remove the tick in the star alignment box because I wanted to see how much refractive drift occurs in a 60 minute stack. I did not realize that this action would disable the Drift Graph, so that explains my observation. I will try again...

Re: New Feature : Background Subtraction
Testing the SharpCap 4.0 Background Subtract Tool First, I would like to thank Robin Glover for adding the Background subtract feature to the preprocessing options. I ran some preliminary tests last night (2021-03-21) to see how well this feature performs in my Bortle 8 back yard. I am particularly ...

Thank you for your reply. I was fairly sure that I was not the only one using SharpCap for EAA. I would be interested in knowing if there is a discussion group either on this Forum or some other forum dedicated to exchanging information about EAA.

New Application for Live Stack in SharpCap 3.2
I posted the note shown below and the group of ten images on Instagram (@vctyree) and on the Inner City Astronomy Group (on Facebook) a few days ago. I am very pleased that the live stack function in SharpCap 3.2 is capable of stacking a sequence of short (10-second) sub-exposure deep sky images tak...

Re: Light Pollution Subtraction
The dark and flat correction is absolutely essential before doing the light pollution frame subtraction. This is because there will be a more complex light pollution gradient without the flat calibration. I have found that, even though you can use DBE without flat field calibration, the removal of l...

Re: Light Pollution Subtraction
The method would to be to take either live images or live stacked images in which the SharpCap preprocessing applies darks and flats to each image and offer the option of subtracting a light pollution image that is saved in a folder. I currently am using SharpCap to live stack (dark and flat correct...

Light Pollution Subtraction
I have been using SharpCap 3.2 Pro for a couple of years to do imaging in a Bortle 8-9 urban sky. I typically use live stack with real-time dark frame and flat field calibration. The results have been rather surprising given that the sky is very bright with light pollution. Over the past couple of y...
