Problem with livestacks - dark subtraction - in EEA
Hi Robin, I was running SC 4.1 (latest version) livestacking for EEA observations of some galaxies - with the appropriate darks and flats. At the same time also dithering, guiding and saving the stacked lights for later processing. It worked well - after 60 min I had a nice image of NGC4449 up on th...

Re: M42 chronicles
Dave, Thanks for all the processing details. If I do anything good enough in the next few weeks I'll record the same - there are just so many alternatives now. I like the whole concept of keeping a chronicle of some object or another because it is easy to lose sight of just how far and how rapidly t...

Re: NGC 7129 in NIRGB, NIR and RGB
Hi Menno. A very late additional comment. Just thinking about the significance of the lack of (~ 800-900 nm ?) NIR from these HH objects and reflecting that it probably particularly makes sense for an HH object ? Well at least if I understand the attached publication correctly - which I may not of c...

Re: Plato (processed with waveSharp)
Again very nice Dave --sharp but also remaining realistic looking and not overcooked- The methods you provide serves as a great guide to what to do. I have saved a file with links to your posts as a reminder of settings and to get the waveSharp software I am away from imaging again for about a month...

Re: Aristoteles & Eudoxus 2-panel mosaic
Thanks Dave, very useful account of exactly what to do and I will give it a serious go with the 12 inch Newt one of these nights. I was interested in thinking through the whole question of what aperture, focal length etc should really work best for lunar/ planetary imaging and came across this threa...

Re: Issues with short exposures and flats
I had a similar effect some time ago that turned out to be due to the offset (brightness) value at which the darks were taken not being exactly the same as for the lights -- so another possibility perhaps?
Scrub that ..just noticed brightness was the same

Re: SC gets slower and slower when live stacking
Hi Chris, Robin Just checked and on 12/02 for example it was 312 frames captured in total but that was split between 3 objects. Quite a few frames --maybe as many as 200 were rejected over this time --either brightness or FWHM filters. I always like to do EEA while capturing so I was using the live ...

Re: Local galaxies. big telescope versus small telescope
Yes thanks Dave. As shown in that APOD picture the hidden galaxy is really a very attractive object -- lots of red that doesn't even need an HA filter to bring it out and a foreground of gold, blue and white stars. I look forward to seeing if I can drag the big scope out to somewhere dark and - if t...

Re: SC gets slower and slower when live stacking
Just to comment that it can't be a general problem because I am also using win10 and the latest SC4.1 and routinely capture via live stacking for several hours of an evening but am not seeing any slow down?
