Re: livestacking histogram jumps around more than before?

Hi Robin, Thanks for the quick turn-around! I’m glad that the “jumping histogram” was not entirely a figment of our imagination(s). Would capturing dark frames each night help reduce the histogram-scaling impact of the hot pixels? Would darks be likely to filter out the hot pixels? We have skipped u...

Robin,
I sent the link via a private message to admin.
Let me know if you didn't get it!

And thanks again for all the attention, and for your amazing software.

Re: livestacking histogram jumps around more than before?

Hi Robin, I captured some images last night that demonstrate the "jumping histogram" problem. I have ~10 fits files (31MB each) that when processed using the v4 "folder camera" should demonstrate the problem. How can I best share these fits files with you? Can you accept Dropbox ...

Re: livestacking histogram jumps around more than before?

Robin, For me, it also jumps to the right, as if the mean is changing significantly. I can't swear that it never jumps left, but I am sure it jumps to the right. The jump is almost always enough to "spoil" the current stretch (i.e., you have to significantly move the black and midpoint to ...

Re: livestacking histogram jumps around more than before?

Hi Robin, Thanks for continuing to think about this. I am fairly sure that I reset the stack after turning background/gradient correction on or off, but I will need a clear night to verify that did (or didn't) fix the jumping histogram. Right now, we have solid clouds for a few more days. :( Is ther...

Re: livestacking histogram jumps around more than before?

Thanks for the thoughtful replies: Robin - we do have some drift, but in 8-10 seconds it is insignificant, yet the histogram starts shifting as soon as the second image comes in. So I don't think that's the cause. Roelb - I had that thought too - perhaps it is sky noise. But I'm pretty sure that las...

Re: livestacking histogram jumps around more than before?

Hi Robin, I've tried shutting everything else off - down to basics with no darks, flats, gradient removal, sharpening, etc. That doesn't seem to make a difference. I don't recall when the "change" seemed to occur, but several of the people in our club that I have trained have made note of ...

livestacking histogram jumps around more than before?

I've noticed that recently (?) that the livestacking histogram jumps around quite a bit during the first few minutes of stacking. We show images to the public at our club's observatory, and the rapidly changing histogram can make it hard to keep a good image on the screen for the audience. I don't r...

Re: plate solve with folder camera - extract RA DEC from fits

Good! It turns out my version 4 was out of date, so I was missing your recent additions. Now it works, and greatly speeds up ASTAP plate-solve on "camera folder" images. BTW, the "check for updates" menu option is misleading in that it told me there were no new automatic updates....

plate solve with folder camera - extract RA DEC from fits

Hi Robin, Perhaps I missed any discussion of this, but in teaching my fellow club members how to use SharpCap (for live-stacking at our pubic observatory nights) I often send them a batch of previously captured FITS files (captured with SharpCap of course.) They can practice live-stacking and learn ...
