Re: Pelican Nebula WIP / Clouds, so time to experiment

I don't have much advice to offer because this is looking pretty good already (IMHO), but I do have a question concerning the camera settings. I see you used a gain of 121 and brightness of 4 in SharpCap. ZWO gives the "unity gain" for the 294 as a gain of 120 with a brightness of 30. How ...

Re: Imaging Jupiter: Lots of dots in my images

Thanks for all the useful information Dave and Chris. I've learned a lot about working with PixInsight to handle DSOs in the past few years, but I see now that I have to pick up my game with RegiStax for planetary work. I like the "aggressive" set of parameters. I geared myself into thinki...

Re: Imaging Jupiter: Lots of dots in my images

Chris,

I put the file (all 1.2 Gb of it) on my Google drive and I think it's shared for you to download, but I'm not entirely sure. Can you give it a try and tell me if you can get it? The link is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10XA-V_ ... sp=sharing.

Re: Imaging Jupiter: Lots of dots in my images

Chris, In previous imaging sessions, I focused on a nearby star with a Bahtinov mask, and I got the same result. I do lock down the mirror after focusing, too. In terms of sky conditions, I'm considered Bortle 5. There was a slight trace of smoke around last night, but it didn't look significant at ...

Imaging Jupiter: Lots of dots in my images

I started my post-retirement hobby of astrophotography a couple of years ago, and while I've done pretty well at imaging DSOs, I admit I need some help with planetary imaging. The issue I seem to have over and over again is that my images come out made up of many fine-scale dots, making for a very s...

Re: Setting exposure time

Thanks for the info. It looks like SharpCap acts like I thought it did. I've started to try to build into my DNA the thought process that the last thing I do before starting a capture is to set the exposure time to some arbitrary value, then set it to what I want it to be. I guess it's because I'm o...

Re: Setting exposure time

I'm new to SharpCap and it took me a while to figure out that SharpCap was always capturing an image whether I asked for it to start a capture or not. I've seen that once I change the exposure time, the buffer gets cleared and SharpCap starts capturing a new image, which makes perfect sense. The iss...
