Re: First timer, focusing (?) problem

Much thanks chongo,

I did, in fact, play with the histogram (for hours)...I'm going to try your suggestion of a longer exposure, etc.. So, you don't think my "halo" is a photographic artifact?

Re: First timer, focusing (?) problem

Robin, Thank you so much for your ongoing patience and assistance. I was able to get a clear sky recently and used my Bahtinov Mask. Using Folder Monitor Camera, I was able to stack 811 frames of the Andromeda Galaxy. The results were, well, I'll let you be the judge. I'm not sure if the "halo" arou...

Re: First timer, focusing (?) problem

Much thanks Robin,
I will definitely use my Bhatinov mask next time. Even though this image isn't crisp, if it were better focused, would that allow LiveStack to bring out the galaxy? I tried to do this, but obviously failed.

Thank you in advance for your feedback,
Joe

Re: First timer, focusing (?) problem

Thank you Robin and Bruce, Last night I had a taste of this exciting hobby (just a taste). I'd like to think that my frustrations aren't that unusual, although sitting here this morning I'm wondering if I'm just not intuitive enough to master (or at least manage) all the intricacies involved. I only...

Re: First timer, focusing (?) problem

After a year of trial-and-error frustration with my Celestron Evolution 8, Celestron graciously agreed to replace my mount. Now I'm finally back to working with SharpCap. I'll admit that I've forgotten most of what I learned a year ago, but last nigh--my first night using SharpCap--I was able to vie...

Re: In need of a SharpCap tutor

Metrocat07, Thanks for sending the Youtube video, can't wait to take a look. Yesterday I set up inside to just familiarize with the process and couldn't get an image in SharpCap...finally I realized/remembered that I wasn't in focus! Duh! Shows you how much of a beginner I am, but not for long! My b...

Re: In need of a SharpCap tutor

Metrocat07, Actually, after deleting and reinstalling the Skyportal app, everything seems to be working (SkySafari app is still in the works). Now that I can use the scope, we have a seven day of clouds ahead, so not much time to experiment. Unfortunately, it's been since fall that I began to develo...

Re: In need of a SharpCap tutor

Metrocat & Turfpit, Sadly, SkySafari has found a calibration bug in their software, we've been trying to beta test all winter and I am still in limbo. The "fix" is due in weeks (so they say). I can't tell you how frustrating it has been. The one picture I took of the moon last fall was my last time ...
