Re: Auto focus go to best position overshoot amount

Hi Robin, I did not buy any new kit it must of been someone else as  , I have made a geared drive for the rack and pinion focuser as the 10:1 reduction always appears to have a small amount of slippage randomly which is why I converted it to a 25:1 reduction gearbox between the Sesto and the ...

Re: Auto focus go to best position overshoot amount

Cheers Robin,
Sounds fine I usually start more than 200 away so all should be good, if you could just make it dark earlier and the sun come up later + remove the clouds then everything would be great. :D

Thanks

Auto focus go to best position overshoot amount

Hi, I have read the manual in regard to the best focus position and I know that it will go out and come back in if I was focusing from an inward direction. Does anyone know what the overshoot amount is as the backlash on my focuser is 50 microns which equates to 200 steps on the focus motor. Cheers ...

Re: Bahtinov Mask and Display Histogram Stretch

I have had the issue with the red colouration it is the mask in Sharpcap what I usually have to do is use the FWHM focus tool so that I can resize the selection box/mask. If I then swap to the bahtinov focus assistant I can then resize the selection area, if I just go straight to the bahtinov focus ...

Re: My Messier Journey So Far

Going well then good luck with the remainder, I really should capture more of the messier objects. Not done much lately as it is not dark until nearly twelve also currently the weather has been awful so actually seeing something other than clouds would be nice.

Cheers

Focuser mod to improve Sharpcap Autofocus

Hi, I have always had an issue with the 10:1 reducers on both refractors that I have owned with the ball and cup arrangement that gives the 10:1 reduction on the rack and pinion. I have found that the friction is not perfect even after adjustment and during the course of an evening there is always a...

Re: Brain function Exposure /Gain vs Star size

Hi Robin, I am refocusing between each filter even though they are allegedly par focal, the telescope is a refractor and will never be diffraction limited as it is a 130mm LZOS triplet with a strehl value of 0.98 so it will always being seeing limited never diffraction limited. I see similar effects...

Re: Brain function Exposure /Gain vs Star size

Exactly before running a set I ran the brain then went into imaging the live stack + saving individual frames immediately after so they should be fairly representative of the sky brightness.

Re: Brain function Exposure /Gain vs Star size

Hi Yes red was the first filter up and we started the imaging run at about 22.50, then green was about 22:50 and then flip and luminance from 23:50 and finally blue at about 1:40 until 14:35. So it is possible that it could be related to astronomical dark times but would the exposure not have calcul...
